Immobiliser Repair

At Coventry Auto Locksmiths we offer a fast and efficient immobiliser repair service so if you’re facing some of the common problems that arise due to an immobiliser fault, we can help. If you’ve noticed any of the following faults, you may well have an immobiliser fault:

  • Central Locking not working
  • Alarm not working
  • Car won’t start – Immobiliser light on
  • Car turns over but does not start

Most of us naturally panic when our car won’t start and immediately think of huge costs for mechanical repairs when it could simply be a fault with your immobiliser.

There is nothing quite as infuriating as a Citroen car or van that won’t start because the immobiliser just isn’t working. The good news is that this isn’t something that needs a main dealer to sort as here at Coventry Auto Locksmith’s we are fully equipped to get you going again.

Every day we get calls from people who are locked out or are having problems with their Citroen car or van and many of these problems are easily solved.

Common Problems include:

  • The Central Locking stops working
  • Your car or van won’t start and the immobiliser light comes on
  • The immobiliser light is constantly flashing
  • The car starts then stops
  • Your alarm is not working
  • The key has an undefined problem and stops working

Relay Problems

Vauxhall, Rover and Nissan

Many of us don’t realise the fault on our immobiliser until it has been diagnosed by a mechanic. Panic sets in and we think there’s something seriously wrong with our car, we just don’t know what exactly. Luckily in some cars, the dash shows an immobiliser fault – a really handy feature if you have it! Remember, an immobiliser fault doesn’t mean mechanical failure and can be fixed easily, although we do appreciate the inconvenience that it causes.

Peugeot, Citroen, Fiat

We are repairing lots of Ducato, Relay and Boxer ECU’s and immobilisers. These regularly get corrupted when the vehicles are jump started and then will not start afterwards. We can make good a repair on these by sending us the ECU and immobiliser box. This saves the need to have a new immobiliser and keys done at the dealers at a fraction of the cost. The good news is that it can all be done by post if you are at a distance and want to fit it yourself or we can also call out to remove the ECU and Immobilizer box for you if you are within thirty miles of our workshop.

The symptoms of this problem are that the car does not start after flat battery or jump start and key light flashes. Also Locksmiths and Technicians will notice that there is erroneous data from immobiliser or 8+ keys showing as programmed.

It’s important to remind people that looking after your car key is hugely important. Your car key holds a transponder which, when inserted into the ignition, activates the immobiliser and allows fuel to the engine. Car keys are often thrown about and treated as a fairly robust tool, but damage the transponder and you have yourself a nightmare.
